Basic Skin Care

Step 1: Cleanse

The problem with most soap and skin cleansers is that they often work
too well, removing natural emollients and oils that form your skin's
natural protective layer. A cleanser should effectively remove dirt,
surface oils and makeup without drying or irritating the skin, while
maintaining your skin's pH balance.

Step 2: Hydrate

After cleansing, pat skin dry. Try to avoid rubbing your skin.
Spritz a non-alcoholic toner on your face. This will hydrate your
skin, as well as, rebalance the pH.

Step 3: Protect

While your skin is still damp from the toner, apply a pearl-size
amount of moisturizer to your skin. This helps trap moisture
to keep your skin soft and smooth. For sun protection, use a
moisturizer with SPF 15.

***Exfoliate*** Daily or weekly exfoliation is necessary. Hydroxy acids and enzymes
keep pores clean by preventing buildup of dead cells at the mouth of
the pores, blocking them and creating an environment friendly to acne-
causing bacteria. Hydroxy acids gently dissolve the glue (proteins)
that hold your dead cells together, while enzymes digest the dead skin
cells. Avoid harsh scrubs which physically exfoliate using granules.
They can actually make your skin thicker, as opposed to, soft and supple. Think of the friction that creates a callous.
